Time In Boston

I hope that you will enjoy this Boston blog. I will start things off with some interesting facts about this great city.

Boston has a population of 589,141 and together with Philadelphia, can be considered as 'The cradle of American history'. The area in and around Boston can be said to be home to a population of around 5.9 million. It is the state capital of Massachusetts and lies some 185 miles north east of New York and is the largest city in New England. The city is also the county seat of Suffolk County as well as one of the oldest and wealthiest cities in the United States, with an economy based on education, health care, finance, and high technology.English colonist first landed in 1630, around ten years after the Pilgrim Fathers established the nearby Plymouth Colony. They landed on a peninsula called Shawmut by the Native Americans who lived there. Boston is named after Boston, England, a town in Lincolnshire from which several prominent colonists originated. In 1632 it became the capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1773, the city was the location of the 'Boston Tea Party', when an angry group of citizens, disguised as Indians, boarded tea ships and dumped their cargo overboard as a protest against the economic dominance from Britain.
Boston prides itself on being one of the easiest cities in America to live in and therefore rents and housing prices are correspondingly high. With record low crime rates and unemployment rates, the quality of life in the city has never been better. Thanks to programs like Boston Main Streets and Restore Boston, new businesses are thriving and Boston's downtown Class A office vacancy rate is less than 2 percent. Boston's city services are here to help new businesses get started and help old ones grow stronger.Today, Bostonians welcome more than 10 million visitors each year from all over the world as they arrive in Boston to enjoy this exciting and interesting city.Tourism is one of Boston's and New England's largest industries, and as a result you will find a city willing to accommodate and entertain you as few other cities can.Over the last 350 years Boston has been growing - literally! Its central landmass has more than tripled over the course of the centuries, a feat that cannot be attributed solely to the annexation of nearby towns. Boston's growth was the result of an ingenious landfill project that created Back Bay, a portion of the Financial District and the new face of Boston's waterfront.
